Meet the Doula
Hi! I'm LaRee (pronounced Luh-Ree) Boring. Yes, my last name is Boring!
I am a wife, mother, artist, enneagram 2w1, and birth doula in training through Birth Arts International. My husband and I got married in 2017, and have since welcomed three amazing children into the world (two born in the hospital, one born at home!). Our story is one of redemption and is laced with the sweet, sweet grace and mercy of Yahweh.
I have been passionate about childbirth since becoming pregnant with our first son in 2019. I see so much beauty and biblical imagery in pregnancy/childbirth. My difficult first labor experience led to a much deeper appreciation for our birth doula. Having a doula allowed my husband to be fully present, was so empowering, and gave me a peace of mind knowing that someone was there to advocate for our wishes. Absolutely nothing beats having an extra person "in your corner" making you feel emotionally, mentally, and physically comforted and willing to pray for you through the delivery process. Reflecting on how much her support meant to me helped peak my interest in becoming a doula myself.
The word doula originates from the Greek word for “slave”, doulos. As a doula, my goal is to serve expecting parents in one of the most vulnerable - and exciting - times of their lives. During childbirth, I provide comfort measures including – but not limited to – aromatherapy, massage, acupressure, emotional support, breathing techniques, education, and positional recommendations. I will advocate for the mother, make sure her preferences are known and met to the best of my ability, and will provide evidence-based information when needed. It is of utmost importance to me that the birth experience is positive and unifying for the expecting parents/family; therefore, I will intentionally work with the mother’s spouse/birth support person during labor and birth to promote this experience.
An extra perk for clients - I LOVE art and capturing storytelling photographs. If desired by the parents, I will bring my camera along to the birth and capture a few sweet moments as each situation permits. However, my priority as your birth doula is making sure that the mother is being supported. The photography comes second to support.
